Remote responsiveness

Post by 537playing »

My 2005 remote barely operates the door locks unless I continuously hit the buttons. Right away I replaced the battery but getting the same unresponsiveness. Is it the remote or the receiving unit within the car?

the receiver is the inside rear view mirror. Is there anything around the mirror that might block reception?
The other thing that comes to mind is the touch area on circuit board needing to be cleaned. what car is it? You only call it a 2005

2005 S60 2.5T

No obstructions.

You mention a circuit board to clean. Is this by the rearview mirror ?

No I mean in the remote. TV remotes and car remotes both use the rubber button membrane with carbon rich spots to close the circuit between two elements on a PC board. The carbon spot can get rubber bleed and the PC board can get oxidized. Then you have to mash and wiggle to get the remote to work. You take it apart and wash the rubber membrane and use a pencil eraser on the spots on PC board.

Another observation- I need to push the remote's buttons three times before the car responds! WTH?

Today the remote works excellent only after running my ViDA on the car. What triggered the improvement is unknown to me. Perhaps just a resetting of the electronics was the solution.

If you can't fix it you need a new remote
