Catalytic coverter problem.

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Catalytic coverter problem.

Post by Trunkles »

Hello folks.

I am seriously considering buying a 1998 S80 T6. There are a couple of points that I'd like to check out before I actually commit myself. :D

When I test drove the car I noticed the catalytic converter light was on. The owner told me that happens when the car hasn't been driven for a few weeks and that the light will go off after driving for a few miles. After a 25km test drive it still hadn't gone out. Was that, perhaps, too short a distance for it to have gone out or was the owner bulls**ting me?

I know that it will guzzle petrol if driven hard, but if driven within the speed limits, what's the typical petrol consumption?

Does anyone know where I can download a PDF of the owner's handbook?

Are there any particular items I should check before buying? The car has done about 180,000 kms (110,000 miles) and has been regularly serviced by the local Volvo dealership.

Thanks for you help and, if all is well, I'll have a very nice Volvo within the next week. :)

Simon.
