I get a rattle in the engine compartment, when I turn off the ignition.
I have seen some complaints about motor mounts needed to be replaced. My S70 has 142K miles.
Anybody with this experience?

Either your lower (front) engine mount by the crank pulley or the torque rod bushing up top that connects it to the firewall.

This answer is a winner!!! More than likely the front engine mount, mine was so bad it was missing and the engine was resting on the subframejblackburn wrote:Either your lower (front) engine mount by the crank pulley or the torque rod bushing up top that connects it to the firewall.

Mine does that too... (98 S70 T5-M). How can I properly dianose this issue? I look under the front right tire, remove the two 10mm bolts from the inner wheel well, identified the engine mount, and it (appears) to be okay. I have the new IPD HD upper engine mount installed. Is there something else I'm missing? Thanks.

Replaced the "front" motor mount. (The one next to the passenger side front tire.)
I swear, the car runs smoother. Turning off the engine still shakes slightly, but the "rattle" seems to be eliminated. The old mount was intact, but I think the rubber was "stretchier" (Where did I go to school?).
As I work my way around the car, it appears that a California car fares better after 140K miles than non-California cars.
The front end bushings are tight, there is no wiggle that I can detect. No rust on the undercarriage. If I didn't get tired of a car after 12 to 15 years, I might keep it.
Do 5 cylinder cars all shake when turned off?
