First off, Thank you Mathew for this site!
Background: Since 1985, I have owned wagons 240, 740, and now a 2000, V70XC with 34K miles.
Issue: Since the 240, I have been doing less and less repair and maintenance myself.
Dilema: While I could do the basic, scheduled maintenance myself, brakes belts etc,,I also realize my V70 is not as basic as the 240. I have no need or desire to do it myself and would rather pay a well deserved, skilled craftsman who has the diagnostic equipment.
Question: What is involved with the 30K mile service?
I just paid $450US, gulp,, for new rotors(front) and pads and was told I should do the 30K mile scheduled maintenance. I bought the car with 27K and had a complete safety check done so I thought I was good until 1st major scheduled maintenance at 60K. My owners manual, suggests VERY basic replacement or checks and access to the detailed scheduled service proceedures for a V70XC is not what my 240 once was.
?? For the $400US estimate on 30K service what should I expect, besides peace of mind?
Thanks in advance to those who respond.
Shannon

First, I must commend you on your use of red text
30k service... I can't comment on the price because I don't know what it includes. If it's the regular plugs, washer fluid, oil, oil filter etc. (like my 850) stuff that I'm 80% certain it is, then it's a ripoff. That's just the way those things are: high margin service deptarment Volvo items.
It's how dealers stay in business; the small margins on new cars aren't enough to pay the Volvo dealer owner's mortgage, let alone salaries and the 10000 other business expenses they have.
If you're happy paying this amount for simple stuff, then go ahead and do it. Else, you can replace plugs yourself, and get under there and change the oil (buy new oil, handle messy used oil, take used oil in for recycling) and filter and save $.
