My wife just returned from the dealer with her 2004 XC-90 that has 142k on it. She brought it in for a pitch sound emanating from the rear and three plus hours later this is the result. Would anyone please take a look at this invoice and let me know what sort of a "deal" we received. Also, please note that it says AWD is inoperable and rear shock is leaking (we did not do anything about these 2 things yet). I'm wondering what folks think about the work that WAS done today and it's cost.
Thank you in advance!
Cliff
Appraising a repair?
OEM parts can be expensive which is what I am sure you got from a dealer, they are also quality parts. The big question is the "shop hours" does the hourly rate (X) maint hours coincide with how long your wife waited for the vehicle? I see it looks like she waited while repairs were being done.
Cliff; basic math tells you that the shop rate they are claiming (assuming 1 mech worked on veh as inidicated by receipt) is more than $150 an hour. This would be very high in my part of the country (Minnesota) I can't speak for everywhere else. I would recommend you call them and discuss it. Dealerships reputations are everything when it comes to maintenance.

Indie Volvo shops here in Colorado average between $89-95 an hour. It would not surprise me if the dealer charged you $150 BUT it is still a very high labor rate! It would not hurt to speak with the service manager and ask. You have nothing to lose at this point and you may get something back!

I spoke with the service mngr earlier today and he said the hours charged are based on the Volvo service book and even though the hours are listed on the invoice it's a predetermined amount. Wheel bearing labor would be 2.80 units even if a mechanic completes the work in an hour and a half. He seems to think the total labor charge of $559 is accurate (even if the car was at the shop less than three and a half hours). He certainly has no intention of issuing a credit or refund in any amount.
Frustrating...
Thanks for the comment.
