'98 V70R - Leaking Turbo Coolant Return Pipe

Post by scoobycant »

My turbo coolant return pipe was leaking. The weld between the pipe and the mounting tab had corroded and cracked. New pipe is on order. I cut out the bad section of pipe with a Dremel tool, and clamped in a 5" long section of 3/8" ID, fuel injection hose. Went for a test drive, returned, turned off engine, and checked for leaks. Temporary repair was ok. Problem is that I'll be driving vehicle about 750 miles before I can install the new tube next weekend. Wondering if the fuel injection hose will hold up until then. Really, really, really don't want to risk overheating due to coolant loss. Am I asking for trouble here?

I'd think that if the hose can handle ~300F then you'll be OK. If you don't know, I'd take a piece of it and stick it in your oven for an hour.
