temperature gauge dive

Post by volvonewbie18 »

hey, I was driving my s40 when i noticed the temp gaugue drastically drop...it stayed pretty low and crept up a lil bit during the drive but never made it back to midway. I stopped the car, let it sit for an hour and ate lunch. When I came out, it wouldnt start..I know it wasn't the battery as it would turn over but not start.

Any Ideas?

Two possibilities:

Heat was actually lost - meaning you lost water (that heats the temp probe) and therefore didnt cool the engine as needed. This could have messed something up.

Electrically, something could have wonked out - causing your temp gauge to mis-read. Then, the electrical problem could have led to a starting failure.
