2006 XC90

I have had my car Volvo 2006 XC90 for 5 months and was experiencing a strange "control feeling" or lack of control, I should say, when I would take a quick, sharp turn onto a street and then the picture of the car with skid marks would flash on my panel. This would even happen on a dry surface. Only once did the "anti skid service needed" message came on and then went off. Well, today I took it to a Volvo dealer who ran the computer codes and it was diagnosed as not being in AWD at all, which would cause that strange sensation I was experiencing. I was told that it is possible that the bevel gear is stripped. Any ideas or advice would be great. I don't know if anyone else has heard of this problem. I bought it used and it only has 68,000 miles. Thanks.
