91 740 sedan doesn't start

hello mates,

i recently bought a 91 volvo 740.
it cranks but doesn't start, i tried to spray some starter spray to the throttle body, it did start but didn't stay running.
the previous owner said that it had been sitting for a year.
i located the fuel filter underneath the car to see if the fuel pump next to it but it is not so i am assuming it must be in the tank.

please give me some advise, i'd like to try to fix it if i can with your directions.
