Help needed - replacing front rotors '07 S80

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Help needed - replacing front rotors '07 S80

Post by jay9890 »

I am thinking about replacing the rotors on my 2007 S80 myself. I've done the job on other non-Volvo cars - so it's not completely new to me. However, when I pulled off the front wheel to see if there is anything different/new, I saw there is a star looking screw securing the rotor. Can someone tell me what tool I need to remove this screw? Also, do I need to remove the center bolt to get the rotors off? Thanks in advance for your help.

You will have to remove the caliper then the caliper bracket. The bracket will interfere with rotor coming off the hub.
You do not need to remove the center bolt or nut. You will need to take out the torx screw that holds the rotor to the hub.
You will likely have to use a rubber mallet to knock rotors loose as they rust to hub in places where they salt roads and even in places where that isn't done.
When caliper is removed be sure you hang it with coathanger or other wire so it isn't hanging by the brake fuid hose.
