Headlight question

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Headlight question

Post by kawasakiklx »

For those of you who saw my last post I have a small update. I also have a question about my headlights.

So I got the wiring and vacuum lines all dialed in. The car runs awesome! I took it down and got it smogged and registered without a hitch. Thanks for the forum and the excellent help I received while I did the engine swap. I couldn't have done it without you guys.

Now for my question:

For some reason my headlight sensor is acting weird, maybe my dimmer switch. When the sun is out the dash lights are supposed to be bright. Instead when the sun is out the dash lights dim to the lowest setting and are unadjustable.

On the other hand when there is no exterior light the lights are adjustable via the dimmer dial near the headlight switch.

What I would like to do as a bypass is just plug or cover the light sensor so the car thinks it is always night. THe lights are on all the time regardless on my model so it shouldn't change anything and is probably the cheapest fix.

So I guess my question is where is the light sensor? I tried covering the black thing near the windshield/dash with the red light and that is not it.

Any help is appreciated!

Here is a page from VADIS which tells the location of the twilight sensor. i.e. located on the climate control module panel.

Great, thanks! Figured it would be on the top of the dash. Looks like the unit I checked does have a sun sensor but only for intensity to adjust the temp of the A/C. Seems a little ahead of its time for 2000.
