98 V-90 hearer core replacement.

Post by RCR »

I have windshield fogging after it has run and sits for a while + it shows coolant residue in the vent by the passenger seat so--. Is there any alternative to pulling the full dash out in doing this job as the manual says you have too??

If you find a way to change it WITHOUT REMOVING THE DASH, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. My heater core expired last summer and the Winter was a cold one!! I also wore my seat heaters out so this upcoming Winter will be a cruncher!!

I have had my dash out twice, the first time to replace the vacuum servo,in 1998, and just last year to replace the heater core.

Did both over a weekend, took about 14 hours first time and 11 hours the last time. The dealer would want about 10 hours.
I figure, the whole car was built around the hvac system. Just about the dumbest thing possible.

Do you really need heat where you are? If only you could swap out the ac evaporator then you could manually control the heat, but then what would you do for the summer, I would rather have ac and no heat where you are.

While it was leaking, it was summer, so all I did was by pass the core at the valve at the firewall.

It is a royal pain to replace.

I have noticed a lot of these lately. Seems like these heater cores have about a 12 year lifespan.

You will have to pull the dash. No other way... Lots of hidden screws and the air bag to contend with.
