Faulty headlight switch?

Post by gbuchana »

I have a 1998 S70 T5 with Canadian spec DRL. Yesterday I noticed that while in the "on" position, the headlights are on, but the dashboard lights and running lights are off. Switching the lights to the "parking light" half-way position turns on the running lights and instruments lights.

I've read a couple of threads regarding headlight switch faults, and this seems like one. Anyone know if this is a typical or likely failure mode?

I gather there was a recall on this. Where can I look for the details of what VINs would be affected by the recall?

If it's not the switch, what sorts of things should I be looking for?

Thanks!

Easiest? Contact a dealer with your VIN and ask about any and all recalls for it.

There were TWO recalls for headlight switches in 1998

Well, Volvo would not touch this as a recall, but the nice dude at the parts desk sold me a switch at a slight discount -- paid $85 tax in. The old switch fell to bits while I was extracting it and the new one works perfectly, so it's clear that the switch was the fault.
