Sunroof Malfunction

On my 940 Turbo, the sunroof has demonstrated the following behaviors. At the first sign of problems, the roof would close to within just a few inches of fully closed and when it reached that point, a gear noise was heard. Since, the roof would retract as normal but only close to a position more open than the previous closing. Still the case that it will retract but not close any further than almost fully open. A Volvo mechanic said that often times some brittle rubber will get caught in the track which can be removed and allow the roof to close. I do not see any such rubber in the trach but cannot get a good view of this area however.
