Can one lubricate the window slides? If so, with what?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Can one lubricate the window slides? If so, with what?

Post by dcarlson12 »

99 S80 T6 and son's and wife's 94 and 97 850's:
Is there something to use to apply to the window 'slides' i.e. the vertical 'seals' which the guide the windows up?
I notice that my driver's side window seems to be labouring when being raised and similarly on my son's passenger side widow. I have tried aerosol/liquid silicone spray via the small red tube and it didn't seem to make much difference. I am worried I will wear out the motor or cause the slides of the window raising mechanism to fail if I can't reduce the friction....

You need to replace these parts:

And this is the reason:

In case you get late with this repair there is a big change to damage the window lift mechanism. Lubricating is done with grease.
Here is a write up (in Bulgarian) click but there are a lot of pics showing the whole process step-by-step so don't mind the foreighn language.
GOOD LUCK

p.s. There are two of them in each door, so for the front doors you'll need 4 pieces.
GOOD LUCK

Thks for the reply. If one lubricates the blue 'slides' can one avoid having to replace them?

Try a VERY light application of lithium grease. it cleans up well and resists water.

Hi Sim,
Are you referring to the internal slides (blue plastic as shown it the photos) for the lithium grease? Or the 'external' vertical slides/seals?
