Need help: Washington, DC, check engine light

Post by iindsay »

Hi all, I have a 1994 850 wagon. I don't want to put too much money into it until I know if it will pass emissions or not, but my check engine light is on and they won't even inspect it. Is there anybody in the DC area who has a code-reader I can borrow?

Any O'riely's, Advance auto parts or Auto Zone will read them for free.

I called; AutoZone and Advance only do '96 and newer. There isn't an O'Rielly near me.

On a '94 you can read and clear the codes yourself with no special tools. I am tempted to move your post to the 850 forum but I will leave it where it is for now.

Here is how you read and clear codes:

http://volvospeed.com/CheckEngine.php

Post back any code numbers that you retrieve. If you car is a non turbo you should be able to read the codes from both ports A-2 and A-6.

If you do have codes be specific as to what port they were read from.

Sorry for my earlier post. I have bronchitis today and the meds are killing me. As was said earlier- 1994 is not an OBD car and you can read the codes yourself under the hood.

Sorry about my mistake

Share the codes with us and perhaps we can help more
