1999 S70, rear ended by a chevy silverado

Post by wolf »

hey,

my 1999 Volvo S70 with 66,000 miles was rear ended by a huge chevy silverado the other day, not too happy. Anyway, the other guys insurance has sent us a check for $ 4,952.44 , does this sound like enough money to fix the body of my car? I've added some pictures to this post so you can see the damage. Only body damage has been done to the car, no mechanical problems have come up so far. I knew that so many people here know so much about volvos that It was a good idea to make a post on the forum. Thank you so much.

P.S if i posted too many pictures, tell me and i will take some off.

Looks like there is frame damage (refering to the black metal behind the bumper), which is not going to be easy to fix or cheap for that matter (a lot of cutting and welding will result). The rear fenders are unharmed and thats good, because that part 'ties' into the main body. Other than the frame damage, it just seems you need is a new trunk lid (It seems that the lights on the lid can be salavaged and put into the new one). New bumper and a paint job and that seems to be it.

Thats my opinion. A lot of it will depend on what the extent of the frame damage, which I cannot really estimate.

cool, thanks for the reply, thats what ive been hearing, the more the frame is damaged, the harder it will be too fix, hopefully the 5 grand can do it, ive had this car for 3 months, my last 850 got totalled while it was parked in a parking lot!!! badd luck. If you had to guess by the pictures, do you think 5 grand can cover it?

The trunk lid and rear bumper with absorber will run you b/t $1500 - $1800 I think once painted. Frame damage is expensive to fix. In my opinion, $5k should be enough to cover it, but if not, go after the insurance company for more. What's the color code for your car? I can get you the part numbers for the pre-painted body parts.

Now that I think about it, I believe I remember when your 850 was totalled. It was hit by some old lady, wasn't it?

Check your State laws about settlement checks If there is hidden damage will they make supplimental payments? Or by cashing the check are they now free of all future claims for hidden damage
