1/2 inch of water on drivers side 97 850 please help

Post by nyvolvoguy850 »

Hello
I have a 97 850, that has had dampness issues such as wet carpet and foggy windows. I was thinking heater core but there is no coolant loss and I don't smell anything or have a window film etc. this afternoon after a hard rain and 1 inch of heavy wet snow. that melted slowly during the day I now have 1/2 inch of water in the drivers well this water seems clean and tastes like carpet water should. the windows doors and sunroof where closed, the car is parked facing down hill at about 25 degrees and level side to side. and i always notice water pools in the gas cap area. also there does not seem to be anything else wet? not the roof liner or the door or seat.

thank you all so much for your help

had the exact problem once. The seal on the windshield was leaking. Its hard to trace too because the water follows a crazy path all over to run down there. But I am guessing its the windshield seal.

Two things come to mind. Sunroof drains could be clogged. Possibly a breach in the cowling seals at the windshield/firewall area.
Just considering places to start.
1993 850 GLT , You wouldn't know it.
1996 850 Turbo Wagon White.
1995 T-5R Black. New work in progress.
1998 V70 XC Cross Country White.
1994 850 N/A Wagon Black.
1997 850 Sedan Black.
1996 850R Wagon White.
1997 850 Sedan Red ( not white or black!)

Thanks for your suggestions . The car is facing down hill, are you suggesting it is pooling up but the wiper base and running in ?
water tends to pool at the trunk and i have tried to clear the trunk and sunroof drains, these drains seem to turn and are difficult to snake thoroughly, can anyone suggest a method ? Where does the sunroof drain lead ?
Thanks again

Had the exact problem with my S70 this summer, the car was parked facing downhill (a very steep one) and found the drivers side footwell full of water after a hard rain. I could not trace the leak, but still think that it was the door seals. Never had such a problem on a level surface, the doors may be dislocating a bit when parked downhill, just a guess.

I was trying to make sure my sunroof drains were cleared using an old speedometer cable. BUT I could not find where the final exit was at. Can anyone help? I didn't want to start a new thread just for this.....
