Recharge Freon
Recharge Freon
How easy (or safe) is it to recharge my freon? I heard that its really something you should only let a shop do.

Very easy...shops will tell you only professionals- they want the money.

A professional shop will (or should) do a more complete job, but if you're just down a little "Freon" (it's actually R134a when you go to buy it) you can add it yourself very easily and safely. There's a lot of write-ups on how to do it, in fact I just did one a few days ago. Do a search on this forum and also on volvospeed.com and you'll get all the info you need.
I've been considering the following...
http://www.duracool.com/Duracool/acsolutions.html
Note the portable a/c kit that they talk about. It sounds like if there are some very minor leaks that this kit will seal up the system.

Make sure to let us know if you try it...
