Volvo dealer wants to charge $250 for throttle software

I recently had the same problem many of you have had, a mix or surging & creep mode out of my 99 S70 because of a faulty throttle body. After reading alot about it, I decided to buy my own part and put it on myself; considering the ease of putting the part on, the fact I have free towing with AAA, as well as getting the actual part itself for $300 made it an easy decision when faced with the $1000 or so most dealer's want to replace it.

So after I did the work, I called Volvo this afternoon just to see if I would need to make an apointment (if it was going to have to go to the "repair" or "service" side of their facility). The guy on the phone initially quoted me $140, which was really suprising consider the $50 or so some of you reported being charged for this 5 minute job. He then started talking about extra fees to turn the ETS and check engine light off (which are not even on when the problem is not actually ocurring!), in which I told him I'd have to talk to him about that kind of stuff in person. He started to get defensive, saying he would have to talk to his manager to see if they could even do it, because I didn't get the work done there and no one has ever done this before. He left a message back on my answering machine later stating that the cost would be $250 !!!

Does this seem ridiculous to anyone? Is there any kind of action I could take against these crooks? I talked to my friend at another repair shop, and he thinks they have the VADIS system for my year Volvo, so I will end up going with them.

What do you guys think about this?

They're trying to rip you off like mad. Do yourself a favor and call a few other dealerships. If anyone wants to charge you any more than 1 hr labor, tell them that they're nuts and call elsewhere.
