850 dashboard lights went out

I have a 1995 850 glt wagon with 130,000 miles on it and the lights always worked on it until yesterday when i started it the lights didnt come on so i fiddled with the switch a little and they still didnt come on. I noticed that when i would turn the parking lights on and turn the key one switch they worked but once i started the car they just turned off also the middle console lights ( Heat/Ac Radio buttons ) lights dont work either but the little radio screen light works, the little red light for the AC switch works and the little display figures in the dash board that tell you what time it is and what your mpg work but that light doesn't come on and today i started it and turned on the head light switch and they didnt come on and when I turned the ignition one click the lights didnt come on.

Try fiddling with your dimmer switch and see if anything happens. These are a very common failure item on the 850 series - the potentiometers in the switches develop a "dead zone" and stop letting the current pass through.

+1 With Black, my dimmer works on the final 15% of the bright end of travel and only shows the lights full bright.

Slider switch on the left side of the steering wheel. near the headlight switch on the S70.
