I know this a common problem and have read the various fixes.
I saw that eeuroparts has Genuine Volvo replacement blades for about 10 bucks more than generic replacements.
I'm thinking of just spending the extra few bucks for the factory equipment blades and hoping that the other modifications will not be necessary.
So my question is, has anyone noticed a difference between the Genuine Volvo blades vs. aftermarket ones?
Thanks

I seriously doubt those would be any better at all.
The blades that the new style and have a blade reinforced by plastic all the way across (Bosch Icon, Trico Neoform) have worked well for me.
Take some big pliers and twist the wiper arm back towards the windshield. I hit a bird last week, mangled mine, and twisted it back - it's never worked better!
Just don't hit any birds to fix it.

Do you mean the style that doesn't have the 4 or 8 points that hold the refill?jblackburn wrote:The blades that the new style and have a blade reinforced by plastic all the way across (Bosch Icon, Trico Neoform) have worked well for me.
I saw those too. Looks like they were for a SAAB 900, ie. would fit the very curved windshield.

Exactly.

I bet those actually would have worked great on my 900 - wipers never lasted very long on it.

Is the OP referring to blade lift off from wind or blade non-contact?
My older S60 (2001) has a Volvo genuine blade on the left side and it has an integral air deflector that pushes it against the glass at high speed. My newer S60 (2007) does not have this.
BTW I use the beam style shown in the above picture, as opposed to the truss style.

No, the problem is not wind related, you can clearly see it come off the windshield when the car is static. Regardless, I wonder if the 850 originally came with the wind deflector. Like your '01, my '72 144 had the deflector from the factory.
You know, it doesn't even seem like a blade issue.
I'll bend the arm and get new blades. I suspect a previous owner may have used the wipers to clear snow instead of using a snow brush - bad idea.

I know I'm late with this but just wanna share this one. I hope this would help. I have a Volvo C70.

This is not mine but my car's model and view is same as this.

Wiper blade are good. Made of quality materials

No problem even if its raining hard. Probably one of Volvo's asset.

You also need to adjust the wiper ARM.
Volvo actually has a tool for the correct angle
After many years they just get weak (their springs) and need to be replaced

Well, here's a follow up.
I bit the bullet and purchased the factory blades.
Yes they are expensive at $40 after shipping - about twice as much as cheap blades.
The improvement was dramatic. There is no reason why these factory blades should work better and not lift, but they don't.
I ask myself why I have purchased blades at Kmart all these years and then cussed about their performance just to save $20 or so. I'll probably stick with factory from now on.
