Lemur Monitors OBD II BlueDriver iPad app
Greetings! Has anyone bought this scanner for their iPad? The scanner costs $40 and connects to an iPad via bluetooth, the ap is free. I have seen some cables that can connect the OBD port to an iPad, but these run about $90 or so. There are other scanners on eBay that are less than $20, direct from Hong Kong, but as far as I can tell, these are PC or Android based and can't be used on an iPad. My goal is to get some kind of OBD II device that can connect to my iPad so I can return my Brother-In-Law's OBD II scanner that I borrowed two months ago!

I received the $40 Blue Driver sensor the other day and plugged it into the OBD II port; I had previously downloaded the free Blue Lemur ap for iPad. I immediately ran out to my car to test my new toy. Think of the scene when Ralphie gets his Little Orphan Annie decoder in the movie A Christmas Story.
I synched the device to my iPad and scanned for trouble codes and it picked up PO455 and PO442 codes (large Evap, Small Evap leaks). I was able to clear the codes quickly, these codes will likely re-appear in about 200 miles or so.
Like many of the other "free" aps available, there is a bundled upgrade for $50 that lets you check for Smog Readiness, Freeze Frame Data (unsure of what this is) and gauging/graphing of data sources, stuff that's beyond my pay grade. Included in the free version is the ability to scan for codes, email the codes to your mechanic, thus saving you the time consuming process of putting pencil to paper, writing a 5 digit code, and actually speaking to another human. That said, I couldn't resist and ended up emailing the codes to myself. You can even post these codes to your facebook page so that all your "friends" have another bit of useless information about you. Either that or make them envious of your new toy so they go out and get their own $40 Blue Driver.
The free version also includes a speedometer and tachometer gauges with a stopwatch and you can email the data to yourself as a .csv file. I don't think you can post this to your facebook page though.
At any rate, I really just wanted to get my own OBDII scanner so I could return the one I borrowed from my brother in law three months ago, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This fit the bill and if I ever get a facebook account, my friends may not want to ride with me knowing that I just keep hitting reset for these two evap codes.

Thanks for the review, Dahammer. Looks like a pretty good app. 4.5 stars from 37 reviews at the App Store.
Note to those who didn't pick up on the details: you need the hardware ($40) and full software unlock bundle ($50) to make it truly full-featured. But even then it's less than many other OBD-II tools.

Yes, the $40 is for the "Blue Driver" hardware that communicates with the iPad via Bluetooth and is available from Amazon.com, using the links on MVS board
here is what the output looks like:
----Confirmed Codes Scan Report----
1 Confirmed Trouble Codes:
1:P0455 - Powertrain Issue
Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large leak)
----Pending Codes Scan Report----

Can someone confirm that you can clear at least P* type codes with this piece of kit? Im very happy with OBD II from Harrison Engineering, but its PC only, and my last PC video screen is toast.
Thanks

Mike - thanks. Im seeing basic functionality read/clear devices on Amazon (with good reviews) for <30 USD - I love my Apple stuff, but thats a big premium to post my MIL codes on FB...

I'm looking at this Bluedriver code reader and it now works with Android
devices:
http://www.lemurmonitors.com/
It was priced at $40 for hardware and $50 for full software, now it is $100 for everything.
I've read that it will not do Volvo ABS codes.
I have a 7" Android tablet that I never use and might work nicely with this.
Anything better for around $100 or less that will record live data?
Site lists these capabilities for a 1996 Volvo:
Read/Clear Check Engine Codes
Repair Reports
Smog Check
MIL Status
Freeze Frame
Mode 6
Live Data
I'm also looking at an INNOVA 3100a:

I actually just recently got this panlong reader for my V70. I figured it was worth a shot. The torque lite app was free. I haven't had any CEL code since getting it, but I can stream live data from it. I now have a boost gauge!
Thus far worth the $12. Here's the link.
