Aux. Light Install Information

Post by econtenor »

Hi:

I have a 2006 XC90 and belong to the First Aid Squad in my town. I am looking to install emergency lighting (LED Grille Lights and LED Hide-A-Ways) and want to use the Aux. Light Switch in the center console to wire it. I just want to make sure I do this properly so I don't blow out my cars entire electrical system.

I ordered the OES Aux. Light switch. Once the lights are installed, I know I need to ground the lights, run the 12 V+ wire from the lights to a relay (don't know size), then 12V+ to the back of the switch. I have to ground the switch and run the 12V+ wire from the switch to an open fuse spot on the fuse panel. They are all LED lights, so the draw is minimal - probably 2 amps or less in total.

So, with that, my main question is what size relay and do I have to use and have I covered everything? Given the minimal amp draw, do I even need a relay or is the fuse panel sufficent to handle the power?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

~Chris
