1995 Volvo 850 non turbo OBDII Code PO179

Post by roadmaster99 »

Hello, the check engine light came on my car about a couples of months ago. At first the light would come on while at idle or low speeds like 15mph then it would come on even on the highway. I purchased a scanner to obtain code and found PO179 Engine running rich, bank one. Here is what I had done to address this. Based on some info that I found on the OBDII website about this code, I have replaced the front 02 sensor and have had all the vacuum leaks checked and fixed and the light still comes on. At this point I do not want to keep spending money on something that does not fix the problem. Any other suggestions on this issue? Roger Baltimore MD. Oh by the way the scanner that I purchased only captures freeze frame data
and not real time. Hope this helps.

Did you clean your MAF sensor; it may be possible that the output signal from it is out of cal (it first developed in the low range, and now at WOT); the ECU will therefore account for more air than the engine really gets, and you actual Fuel to Air Ratio would be rich. (Cleaning the MAF would be an inexpensive fix.) :D
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

The MAF sensor is new, only a few months old so I do not think it is dirty already. I will try to retrieve the codes from OBD1. I keep forgeting that I have the best of both worlds on this model. Thanks,
