I have a 2007 XC90 with the V8 that has 153,000 miles. Love the vehicle but have a noise coming from the rear differential that is getting progressively louder. The most common opinion is that either a carrier or pinion bearing is going out. The dealership wants $4,500 for a manufactured rear differential unit, ouch!
Obviously there are independent shops that can rebuild the rear differential but Volvo offers no parts. We could take it apart and look for part numbers to cross reference or measure the bearings and seals, etc. But I can't be the first to want to do this.
Has anyone had success cross referencing or finding part number or a source for the basic bearings and seals to rebuild a rear differential on a 2007 XC90 with a V8?
I could always go with a used unit but they are not cheap, about $1,000, with no warranty.
Any part numbers, suppliers, sources or knowledgeable resources would be appreciated. If any of you have had your rear differential rebuilt - please share your experience.
Not keeping this vehicle forever but want it to be quiet and dependable.
Thanks for any advise, information or experience you can share.
