door opening noise
Opened the door drivers of the S70 today and it made a sharp 'crack' from the hinge that holds it open in part and full positions - same when it closes; crack, crack. You know what i mean, can't seem to find the words but its happened before on old cars I've had. Just happened for the first time today......lookad and couldn't see anything loose or crooked, poked a lump of vaseline in and around the pins but no difference. What do I do? other door is nice and quiet like always.
Your door stay/check broke at the welds. Common problem. You can either reweld (expensive because you need to remove all electrical wires or cheap and risky because you do it without removing the wires and risk frying them) or you can do what I did....remove the door, drill two holes at the check and bolt it down. Did that about a year ago, and it's a permanent fix. Here's some links:

Local shop quoted $500 for a 1994 855 I was thinking of buying. The car was in for the EGR so it can pass emissions and be sold by the owner when I went to look at it. I just repaired the weld on my S70. Removing the door is the best way. Used regular sockets for the E-Torx screws that held the door. The door can come off in 5 minutes for the s70.
Borrowed a wire feed welder from my cousin and did not have a Dremel to remove the paint on the seam so just use a screw driver to scrape the paint
The weld looked like warts as I had attempted to do this in the beginning without the door removal (MUST REMOVE).
I finally drilled two holes to pull the plate tight and just spot welded. Purchased the car that way and after the repair I still was not use to NOT hearing the sound
Use some hardened SS screws would be best with Locktite and you may get away with not doing the welding. The seam on my plate was only broken on one end, fully though. If it is only broken partially DON"T let it break inside all the way. If you have a helper and tools you can do the screws in about 1 - 1.5 hours or much less and get by for indefinitely. The doors are very heavy doing it alone.
Blessings,
BKM
