Platinum or regular spark plugs?

Post by Faheyk1981 »

What do you use regular or platinum spark plugs? Much of a difference other than their life cycle?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin.

I think they last the same amount of time so you can go cheaper copper or pay extra for platinum with same life cycle....

Do not ever use platinum plugs in a Volvo. They WILL misfire.

Bosch super copper or OEM Volvo plugs. Personally I think the OEM ones are overrated and overpriced. The coppers are $1.25 a piece and easily last 40,000 miles.

Coppers or OEM.

The only time I've ever had a problem is when I was running an Upsolute tune on regular NGK coppers, I switched over to OEM plugs and didn't have any problems. I think it was more the tune and not the plugs anyway.

I ran regular Bosch coppers with my ARD tune and had zero problems. I also run plain coppers in my 300c and my Jeep. I think you'll find that your typical enthusiast on any automotive forum out there generally runs whatever the manufacturer calls for.

Most of the Platinum hype is a result of marketing and not much else.

I use Bosch Platinum and Champion coppers depending on the car. The low performance ones go with the base copper ones but for the special ones I use the platinum. I have never had any misfires on any of my cars because of it.

For the dollar difference to the coppers, i find that the platinum ones work well and appear to last a bit longer.

Perhaps it is because I am too cheap to buy the Volvo Original stuff ;)

I have heard some people complain about the pointy electrode platinum ones breaking off in their cylinders of their turbos but I never have had any issues with the Bosch platinum (non pointy electrodes) since I have used them over many cars over a 4 year period.
