Turbo water cooling hoses

Post by ronaldo2526 »

1996 Volvo 850 Turbo

Trying to change out all of the rubber before summer. All of the hoses show swelling and Texas gets hot.

All of the cooling diagrams with part number references that I have been able to locate do not show the water hoses for the turbo.

Recently ordered a hose that was called a turbo water inlet hose. One side is large and the hose necks down to a smaller size. I haven't tried to install it yet, but it appears that the hose that is in place is the same size at both ends. Are there different hoses for different years? Is this possible or do I just have a hose that is really swollen and the end is covered with crap so I cannot see the part that is necked down.

Also near the reservoir tank is a short piece of hosed (3- inches) that is connected between two metal pipes. That hose is not referenced anywhere that I know of either. Is there a part number for it?

One of the best descriptions of how to replace the turbo coolant line is here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=16852
After reading the first few posts I was inspired to tackle the job myself and I took some photos along the way (which you can see on the second page of the thread linked above).
Here is my photo of what the old and new coolant hoses looked like:

The part number was 6842190 and does have a different diameter on each end. My old hose as you can see in the photo was so swollen from heat and oil that it's not easy to determine what the original diameters of the hose ends were.
Good luck!
