V70 No oil pressure

Post by alanjackson2011 »

It appears that V70 have a problem with low oil pressure when they get to about 150K miles, and the main cause is said to be the seals and O rings in the sump.
I have the “NO OIL PRESSURE STOP problem on my 2001 V70 2.4 turbo, Volvo confirmed the pressure does drop to zero. I removed the sump, cleaned it until spotless and re-assembled with new seals and O rings – still the same. Engine sounds fine, purrs away only a little noisier when message is displayed.
I seems that others have been through the same procedure and not solved the problem.
I have a few questions
1. I would like to ask what other members have done to fix the problem after NOT fixing it with the seal replacements.
2. Did anyone have any concerns about the brown sleeve seal within the sump on the pipe that runs from the oil filter housing to the oil cooler? The one in the Volvo kit didn’t look right to me – too small.
3. On 1999 V70’s there is a pipe directly under the sump can this really be yanked out of the way to remove the sump, or can it be disconnected?
4. Has anyone ever had a bad oil pump? Some members mention replacing it but it seems it never has cured a low oil pressure problem

Hello Alan,
While I am new to the forum as I am now a V70 owner... I to have an almost identical issue with the oil pressure light when warm when the idle drops back down to idle. At this point I am prepared to drop the sump and change the o-rings, etc. but first I am trying a "miracle cure" a LUCAS oil product that is supposed to rehabilitate old seals and o-rings and is also supposed to remove oil sludge and varnishes that are also supposedly part of the problem. While the LUCAS product has only beenin the sump for a few days I am already observing some improvements in the duration of the oil light when the engine is at full operating temp. I also have some diagnostic software that I want to run to see if the pressure is actually dropping down to and staying near zero psi.
More to follow.
