Fuel filter recall

Post by davidhperry »

I got a notice a while back about a fuel filter recall for my 2002 S60, and I'm scheduled to take it to the dealer for a replacement in two weeks.

I bought a 2004 V70 last week, and when I called the dealership and gave them the VIN for that car, they said it wasn't covered in the recall. This is confusing since the notice I received seemed to include all P2 cars, which my V70 is. Was the tech at the dealer wrong, or is it possible that the fuel filter was replaced by the previous owner? I bought the car from my uncle and I know that he took it to an independent shop, so I'm not sure how Volvo would know if it had been replaced, if it was even replaced.

Does anyone know if the 2004 V70 is covered in this recall?

Thanks rspi. I didn't realize that you can search for recalls like that, but should have. It looks like this cars had a fuel sensor recall in 2007, but the fix has been performed. Looks like I'm in good shape!

Older thread but this just failed on my 2004 V70. Computer showed my VIN was NOT covered in the recall. Found out the reason was the recall was limited to cars sold or registered in certain 'hot' weather states. Mine was in NY at the time of the recall but moved to VA same year as recall. I had to make several phone calls but Volvo, to their credit, made the repair at their cost. If your car is the model and model year you should be covered IF you complain. Makes no sense to exclude some cars because of where they were in space at the time of the recall.

This is a nasty defect and fills the interior with gas vapor. Fire and health hazard. could catch with you in the car or while in your garage with an ignition source. Make them fix it and dont pay the 1k dollars.

Note: the title "fuel filter" is a misnomer - it's the cap on the fuel pump for my car/recall

I never knew recalls could be regional. That seems crazy given how mobile a society we are, and especially how Volvo owners are. Half of my family moved to another country, called Brooklyn.
