hello am new to this forum and seeking expert advice. Own a 92 240 wagon
and trying to get the horn to work. My first question would be is there a horn relay for these vehicles? if not what else do I check . I had hooked up a tester on the very end of the horn connections and when horn button is depressed I get juice. I have directly wired the horn to the battery and horn works just as well. I am thinking that it could be a relay, but could not locate a relay based on my own little research that is associated with the horn. What else could or should I check...Thanks in advance
Any help or input would be greatly appreciated
92 240 wagon...no horn
Volvo does not use any relay as standard and you should have juice continously when ignition is on. The horn will blow when you ground the other side in the steering wheel. Check that you get a proper ground when using the horn.
I would open the steering wheel and check the connection for the horn and put that connection straight to ground and see if it is working. Warning, be very careful if you have an airbag in the steering wheel!

Bringing up an old post:
My 1993 240 wagon (245) horn is not working well, requiring pressing in just the right spot to blast it. I'm guessing the switch in the steering wheel is bad.
Does anyone have any tips or instructions on disassembling the steering wheel and avoiding the airbag so I can check the switch? I'm not too mechanically or electrically inclined, but I'd like to give it a shot.
Or should I start by measuring voltage on the horn, or some other diagnostics? Thanks.

Does that car have an airbag? I have never messed with the horn switch on an airbagged 240.

Yes, the car has an airbag in the steering wheel. Is there a way to deactivate the airbag before removing and dissassembling the wheel? Might the airbag deploy even while the wheel is disconnected?
More importantly, is it possible to replace or repair the horn switch inside a wheel? If not, my only option is a $450 new wheel.

Usually you can clean up the contacts in the steering wheel and get the horn working again.
As to removing the airbag - I don't have specific instructions for the 240 as they were not fitted to UK models, as far as I know. However, looking at the parts list on VADIS they would appear to be held on by screws from the rear of the steering wheel, as with other Volvo models.
Attached is the instruction for the 1996 850, if you feel that you want to go ahead. I think the most important point is that the power must be disconnected.

Bill.
