Unexplainable Heat near lower Strg Column or dash

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Unexplainable Heat near lower Strg Column or dash

Post by Heinrich »

Hello fellow V.O.,
I have a 99 Volvo S-80 T-6 and have lately felt a good amount of heat near the steering column, underdash and now the gas pedal area. The heat is usually about at the knee height better yet slightly below. The heat seems in a logical way to be coming from the steering column but at times heats up the front of my knee, but now I feel it heating up at the bottom of my gas pedal and transferring it to the pedal foot?? I have looked and the only thing I can think of is something In the power steering?..

Any answers would be appreciated
Sincerely,
Heinrich

The underdash panel is really easy to remove. My 850 has 3 t-25 torx screws and that's it. I would take that panel off and look/feel around there right after it gets hot. As somebody who lets things slide sometimes you want to figure this one out quick before something starts burning.

Also may have better luck if you post this in the forum for your type of car, not the performance forum.

Maybe it is coming from the heater core and has something to do ductwork or blend doors? Do you know if the passenger side has the same issue when it takes place on the driver's side? Click to enlarge the diagram in the link.
