Shift knob removal
I was at the JY getting lots of goodies for my wagon but could not figure out how to pull the shift knob. From the manual I recall it simply says "pullup to release" well no go. Any help? Also will a S70 shift knob work?

You literally have to throttle the hell out of it until it comes out. One leg on driver side and one on passenger side. Just make sure you don't pull it so hard that your hand hit's your jaw or the roof real hard

This sounds like hernia city. does it help to have the knob in a different gear for leverage? Thanks for the tip on the S70. The one I grabbed a cabin filter tray had taken a big hit up front and had a very sweet interior.

You need to grip the shift knob with your palm while simultaneously squeezing the front and rear tabs then pull, or use pliers like this.

I usually make sure the sunroof is open so I don't hit my head. No man, it's really not that hard but it is easier if the shifter is in N or D.

The last one I did at the JY, I moved the lever all the way back to the lowest gear, climbed in what was left of the backseat and pulled like h3!!. Took a couple minutes to get in a position where I had some leverage and a good grip but it worked. I had another VERY nice wood grain find, the wood and button were perfect. I worked on it for 20 minutes, tried from P, N, low gear, from the front seat, rear seat, nothing. I told them I was serious that it should just pull off. I showed them in my car how it comes off (very easily by the way, sit in the driver's seat, put it in D or low gear and give a good steady pull, it lifts right off) and I would give them $75 for it if they could get it. They never called. My point is that it can vary quite a bit from one to another how hard it is to remove, in my experience anyway. S/V70 are compatible. I think the C70 as well but not 100% sure about that one.

Maybe it will be easier of you push the shift button. It's never that hard for me and I've pulled maybe 8 of them off different cars. Also, that knob will fit all 850's, S70, V70 through '04, and some S40, S60 (through '02), many C70's.
