v40 stalls when cold

can anyone help, i have just got a 1999 v40 2.0ltr and it dies when idle cold , once its warm it runs great

The 4 cylinder cars have some history of engine coolant temp failing so it may not know the correct engine temp to meter fuel properly for cold running.
The easy and free thing to do first would be to clean the throttle as that being clogged affects airflow amount and this can also cause initial idling problems when first started.

Try cleaning the Idle control Valve with some carb cleaner and a bottle brush
