240 Trim Removal

Post by gmasters »

I have a 1991 240 wagon that I am prepping for paint. I was wondering if anyone can give me some pointers on removing the trim without damaging any of it? I figure the bumper probably have a couple of hidden screws and the side trim probably has some special technique you use to pull it off. Does anyone know how to get the chrome trim above the doors off? Ay help would be appreciated thanks!

The attached shows the locations of the several bolts you will need to force off to remove the bumpers.

The rubber trims on the doors and front and rear panels are held on by clips of varying designs. These clips will break because of their age so you need to know a supplier before you start. Check our sponsors at the top of the forum.

I have never removed the chrome trim above the doors, masking it out when I did a respray. However, clip 29 in the upper box looks as though it is the only thing that could be holding the trim in place.
