VVT exhaust side feels like its locked
Had to buy a brand new vvt unit. Confused with the directions, because it doesn't want to turn in either direction it feels like its locked, I saw something about pressurising it?Do I need to do that beforehand How? This is a nightmare. Anyone have a video link. Any help is realljoy appreciated. Thanks

So you bought a new VVT hub correct. When its all assembed the cam gear should be able to be rotated 2-3 teeth clockwise. It takes a bit of force though. I have not ready anything about pressurizing it, but maybe thats part of a process with a brand new VVT unit?

Thanks for the reply , Yes, brand new vvt , tried to use the cap screw with a rachet wrench but still wouldn't budge, something isn't right, and don't want to force it and do damage to it.

Well that's what I was questioning. If it is, then I need to have the three bolts centered in the slots, rotate to 1.5 cogs before timing mark on cover, tighten centerbolt, and cap . Install the belt,
Now release the tensioner. Bar over two turns ,check timing marks. But is the exhaust still falling 1.5 cogs before cover mark?

Search this S80 forum for VVT. Ive been down this road a couple of times with setting it, some of the posts will probably help. That said, if you either have the belt off or have the three bolts loose the center VVT hub should rotate a little

Your new VVT does look just like the one you took off?
The VVT's for 4 cylinder and P1 5 cylinders are slimmer and do lock.
We are all assuming you are working on an S80 since that is the category this is posted in.
