1993 940 Oil Light Issue

Post by stereomonostereo »

Hi all,

Just recently my oil light has been coming on after warmup, anytime i'm under around 1500 rpms. It would happen in the past, but only under heavy driving and would only flicker when i was at idle. I was about due for an oil change, so i changed the oil with 15w 40, but i'm still having the same issue. I'm driving a 1993 940, with 228,000 miles. I'm not noticing any difference in idling or performance, so i'm hoping it's a sensor issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what to look at next? Thanks in advance!

Test the oil pressure and compare it to spec. Or replace the oil sensor and see if it still comes on. Most likely you have an o ring failure on the oil pick up or your oil pump may need replacement. I don't do as much work on 940's 240's anymore so I will hope others chime in

Thanks for the repsonse. I ordered a replacement oil pressure switch, and i'm going to install that tomorrow and see what happens. If that doesn't take care of the problem, then i'm thinking oil pump.

It turns out that it was the oil pressure switch. I'm happy to not be spending the holiday weekend doing an oil pump. Thanks again!
