Hard starting
Hard starting
I have a 2004 S80 T6 with 226,ooo miles. The car starts right away if it has been sitting for several hours. If I make several stops in short periods of time the car will not start right away. I can turn it over, however it will not start until I leave it sit for awhile. Once when trying to re-start the car I coul smell gasoline. The problem is steadily getting worse. A local mechanic suggested replacing the fuel pressure regulator, however he rarely works on Volvo's. Thanks. I am new to this site.

When it does start after the briefer off period does it blow out black smoke and run rough for 30 seconds or no smoke and run rough for less than 10 seconds?
In either case you are losing fuel pressure when the engine is off would be the likely cause. Losing it through leaking injector will make it flood and black smoke and when it runs the cylinder where the leaking injector is located will be badly flooded and take longer to quit misfiring. Loss back to tank would cause long crank and there would be missing but more brief as the misfire would be due to no liquid fuel supply to some of the injectors until the vapors purged via injectors and that clears quicker than flooded cause and there is no black smoke. Fuel smell makes me think leaking injector but that is not a strong reliability symptom.
