I just found an easy fix for the manual sun roof if it won't close all the way.
1) Remove the crank handle
2) remove the metal plate with the gear
3) spin the gear counter-clockwise a few times
4) replace plate and crank!
The crank is built to only spin a certain number of revolutions before stopping and by backing it off you'll give it some more room to spin and close the roof. You don't want to reverse it too much because then you might still turn the worm gear after the roof is closed and cause damage to the mechanism.
what to do if your manual sun roof doesn't close

To fix completely determine the correct rotation of handle to close. With handle and gearbox removed use a blade screwdriver on edge to slide cables to move the panel to full closed position. Turn handle stuck on gearbox to closed stop. tighten the two philips head screws adjacent to the hole gearbox inserts into. Install and tighten the gearbox screw securely.
740's with manual crank are similar other than the full closed position will be half way between panel going flush and panel beginning to tilt up. Otherwise same procedure applies.
The gearbox being loose from assembly and the cable tracks getting loose via the two adjacent screws is how cable tracks get loose.
Electric roofs on 700/900 is sometimes these issues but it is trickier to get the electric motor to the closed position for synchronizing with panel in closed position.
