Ready to give up on my S80 PART 2

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Ready to give up on my S80 PART 2

Post by renzo86 »

Hello there! So I finally got a hold of VOLVO VIDA DICE 2011D software in order to get those codes that almost everybody suggested I should pull out. I'm attaching a picture so you guys can take a look and let me know what you think.
:o :o :o :o :o
I'm concerned about the code ECM-644A Camshaft Control - Faulty signal. That sure gives me one hell of a good headache :? . Should I start a timing belt job on my loved S80?

What about ECM-6800 Turbocharger (TC) control valve - Signal too low? The only thing I replaced was the boost pressure sensor.

ECM-4000,ECM-4010 Canister purge valve and EVAP canister shut-off valve? What do you guys suggest?

As you can see, I REALLY need as much help as possible. What would be my main concern so far? I wanna take care of the engine before something extremely bad happens.

Every single comment, suggestion, question, etc etc HELPS! thanks for looking! :D

my 2c, clear them all and see what comes back. Honestly. A lot of those comm errors could be due to low battery charge at some point.
Clear the codes, drive some, see what comes back.

The turbo control valve should be easy enough to remedy. The camshaft as well.

I got a copy of Vida and a Dice unit and have found my 2000V70 reads afew codes now and then.

Are you going into the Delivery section and clearing them and then restarting the engine as per instructions?

I recently cleared an SRS code apparently being for a driver's side airbag sensor that wasn't sent until my wife went over a big pothole!! I've also seen the ETM ones, even after a new sensor fitment. (ETM sweep test is perfect at 0.16%) I just keep clearing codes that randomly pop up.
Have you done a sweep test on the ETM? Easy enough if the ECM software is the right version. If not it will lock up Vida.
Go into Vehicle Communications -Press the ETM icon on the car diagram-choose Activations then click the ETM text below.

It may be time on these 10 plus year old cars to unplug and replug everything going through connectors repeatedly to wipe off some of the oxidation on the connectors including all the module connectors. And then clean the connectors with electrical contact spray and lots of rags.

While this exercise may take all day due to the high number of modules involved it will certainly give you peace of mind where voodoo codes are concerned. The Canbus system on later Volvos is very sensitive and may react badly to corrosion and moisture. Tolerances are tight and if not an exact reading will call a code.

For example my '99 project car's driver and passenger seat belt buckles are calling up codes but when I do tests on either they report that the buckle is there when it is and not when it's not. So why call a code? Me thinks this system is a wee bit unrefined until later years, bearing in mind it was Volvo's first Canbus system in '99 and then we have the dreaded factor of how time reacts with connectors (our cars are 12 yrs plus now) .

Well, I erased the codes and put some miles.. Still getting same codes. I wonder if there's a short cut somewhere??

Camshaft control means what? Camshaft position sensor or Cam adjust solenoid????

Im so confused now... Don't know where to start. I seriously wanna get rid of the check engine light only. I'm gonna have to sell this car soon and I have to pass the smog test to be able to sell it.

Please I really need more suggestions.

I'm gonna start checking all connectors. Is there any kind of chemical that will allow me to clean them inside???

HELP!'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'-(

Call Independent in Walnut Creek for advise. Antonio is pretty friendly and you are not that far away. If you decide to visit his shop ask him about Swepco Products!
