Well, today I might have screwed the pooch on my S80. For the past 3 months that I have owned the car, I have had to have it serviced way more than it should have. A few weeks ago, my car started misfiring for no reason, later to find out that a incorrect spark plug in the 4th shorted a coil. $500. Since I owned the car, it has had a moderate heater core leak that i have been meaning to deal with, but have not being 19 with barely enough money for food and rent. I would frequently have to fill the coolant and would hear a moderate hiss and bubbling after removing the cap.
Today, I was stuck in traffic and noticed my temp gauge almost at red. couldn't pull over before the core popped, poured scolding hot coolant on my legs and suffocated me with vaporized ethylene glycol. After doing some poking around MVS my best guess is that the head popped (though I cant be positive without testing for hydrocarbons in the coolant) putting pressure on the cooling system.
Is there any point in trying to salvage this considering there is a laundry list of other problems? I love Volvos but after my 850 and my S80 dying, i don't know if i can afford them.

Sorry to hear that. That sucks. Bypassing the heater core might have been the way to go... At least for a couple of months. I think id look elsewhere for the temp rise, non functional cooling fan by way of an electrical issue or similar.
