Pistons for 1974 b20e

Post by 3Catshome »

I know this is a car site, but a Volvo is a Volvo!

I have a 1977 Bayliner with an AQ130 Volvo. I am a Volvo guy, I know that is the same as a b20.

I picked up the Bayliner from a guy who rebuilt the whole engine, and did a nice job too. But he screwed up one of the carbs running jugs 3&4 lean… they burned. He dumped the boat.

I picked up the project cause I love Volvos. Anyway, The engine is in great shape except piston 3 is burned out and number 4 is pitted real bad. Block, head, rods, crank, everything is great shape, just need two pistons.

I guess I am cheap, but I just can’t see spending $200 each for new pistons through NAPA. However, finding B20e pistons has been impossible so far. 1974 only.

Does anybody have or know somebody who has two used pistons I can buy? Standard bore.

They are the ones with the 24mm wrist pins held in place by the “C” clips, NOT the 22mm with snap rings.

I found a set(4) of +.030 pistons and rings for $150, but if I can find standard bore, I can fix the engine without pulling out of the boat, tearing it down, and having it bored.

At that point I might as well cave in to $400 at NAPA. YUCK!!!!

If anybody can help, that would be awesome!!

Thanks a billion. Yes, that was with a "B".
