95 Turbo Wagon - Greenville, SC

Post by jofinneg »

It is time to let the 'Aluminum Falcon' go to a new home. Please make an offer.

I wanted to keep this for my oldest when she goes to high school, but I have a hospital bill coming due for the latest addition to the family, and I need the cash.
I'm going to be as descriptive and real as possible. This is my 4th 850, so I'm pretty familiar with their quirks.
The car has approx 218-222k on the clock (the odometer cut out at 208k).
I did a bottom-up rebuild on the engine at approx 203k. The head was done by Dover (http://www.doverheads.com/)and the cylinders were re-sleeved and honed for standard Turbo pistons. In 2007 I had purchased it from the original owner with a blown head gasket. Once I got into the top end of the engine, I just kept going. All bearings are new and everything was plastic-gauged and measured with an extreme eye for detail.

The Good:
-Runs and shifts like a champ
-Nice tinted windows
-Body is straight and in good shape
-New alternator (as of two weeks ago)
-New timing belts, pulleys
-New water pump, seals
-New thermostat
-Newly re-built motor with 15k on the clock does not burn a drop of oil
-New rotors and pads all around
-New heater blower motor

Now, if you're at all familiar with 850s, a lot of the 'bad' is going to sound familiar. I'm going to list everything I can possible think of that is wrong with the car- even the small stuff - keeping in mind it is currently on the road as my daily driver...

The Bad
-The radio is not currently hooked up - I don't have the original security code and never made it to the dealer to get it. My commute is 8 miles round trip, so I never really feel the need for the radio.
-There is a tendency for the driver's side door chime to not shut off unless the door is slammed shut.
-There is a pin-prick leak in a coolant hose somewhere and I need to top off the coolant every 5 weeks or so.
-The passenger side motor mount is worn out and should be replaced (it can be done through the wheel well).
-There is a 3 drips-a-day oil leak in the engine bay. I think it may be in the Turbo oil linkage, but I have not yet pulled the heat shield to take a look.
-The A/C compressor is a recently rebuilt unit, but I have not taken it to the shop for a service and charge. I just can't afford it right now and so it is currently not working. The previous compressor blew out on me when the clutch froze up on the highway.
-There is an intermittent squeaking from the area of the serpentine belt. It is not the A/C compressor pulley or alternator pulley, but I have not yet figured out where it is coming from. It sounds like it may be a pulley going bad, but since it isn't always making the noise, I haven't isolated it yet.
-The SRS light is on. I don't know how to pull that code and find out why (maybe the airbags?).
-The ABS light is on more often than not. It pops up at random. I have not tried to clean the sensors yet.
-The windshield has a crack in it. Here in SC, that can be replaced for free through insurance, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
-The headliner sags and I stapled it back up.
-The fuel tank has a problem with the seal at the neck of the tank. I am only able to fill it up to 3/4 full because of it. This is actually an official recall item, but again, I haven't gotten around to take it to the dealer to fix.
-The passenger side front rim has a 1.5" long gouge in it from a curb.
-The horn does not work. Actually, it got stuck open and I had to unplug it.
-The window up-down switch assembly is working but not mounted into the center console (the original was faulty when I bought the car and it is kind of a pain to replace).
-Rear tail lights are quite sun-worn.
-Seat tilt motor does not work - the seat will move back and forth only.

If you're seeing a pattern here, that is because I'm one busy dude these days. I've got 4 little ones now. All of these small car issues are piling up and I just don't have the time to focus on them. This car has served us well for 4 years now.

This is not a car for a soccer mom. These Volvos just take too much time and energy to dial in. This car is for a young guy who wants to turn a couple wrenches, maybe tweak the ecm, and go FAST... with room to spare for camping gear.

Just make an offer. This is local pickup only (I'm happy to help load onto a hauler) and cash only. Like I said, I have a hospital bill coming due soon. (Ok, maybe, maybe a first generation Isuzu Trooper or an old Jeep CJ or Wrangler as a trade - just don't tell my wife).
