I started a new job last month. Company is about the same size as my prior one. Interesting thing, here, is there are a large number of Volvo's. Its a much more suburban location (less rural) and a bit more cosmopolitan.
In my old job, there was one other Volvo and a third - identical to mine (even same color).
Here, there are several P1's, an older SC90, a newer S80, a color-matching S60R and I park next to the most gorgeous XC70 I've ever seen.
No idea whose these are but its interesting.

Back when I was in school a few years ago, there were like 3 other S70's in my section of my apartment parking lot alone. A blue S70 N/A, red S70 GLT, and white S70 AWD. There were also 2 in-town with black T5's. Met all of them at one point - Volvos and all the stories (good and bad) that go along with them are a great conversation starter
Heck, I've become friends with a few people on here because of the cars that I talk to outside of the site about this and that un-related to the cars.
Some cars just have that little something about them that makes people fall in love with them, and it seems to be a common theme among owners. Remember the old I <3 my Volvo plates? Just about every 240 I remember seeing 15 years ago had one of those on it.
There was another Saab owner with a car just like ours in the neighborhood I grew up in, and another family with a green Expedition just like ours. The owners would always give us a friendly wave out the window whenever we passed in the other direction. I've gotten that from other Volvo owners many times passing each other on the road, and recently struck up a conversation with another Cruze owner that asked how I liked my car when they parked next to me.
There are some cars that just don't have that character to them. "Good sir! I see you drive a silver Corolla just like mine! What a truely exquisite piece of machinery! Care to sit down and swap stories about it?!" <<<Nah, it just doesn't work.

It has the turn markers on the fender so it is no newer than 2007 (they were discontinued in 2008) and it is the cleanest used Volvo I've ever seenfazool wrote:... I park next to the most gorgeous XC70 I've ever seen.

I bumped into the owner yesterday and we started chatting. His is a 2006 but everything on it looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. The paint, the trim, the wheels. Literally everything looks like it has 1 mile of wear and tear. I'm not one for wagons but this made me want one just like that.

Doing a 100 mile drive to work and home every day, I see quite a few on the road over and over again. I have found out that you don't notice a certain type of car until you own one. I even notice the Volvo tractor/trailer rigs on the road, and usually are more friendly to them as far as merging and stuff, not that I'm mean to the other ones. It's interesting to see the older models still rolling down the road, the ones older than mine.
.
I bought a 2006 V70 2.5T for my wife to drive a year ago and it looked like it just came of the showroom floor. Had one owner that traded it in before the 50,000 warranty was up. It's smooth and quite compared to mine, but doesn't get as good as mileage as mine.
I've noticed that most of the Volvo owners are not the ones who work on there own cars. Earlier ones, maybe. I wasn't either until I found out how expensive they are to maintain through a mechanic.
