240 Rotor question

Post by arbop »

My new-purchased 92 240 wouldn't start, after running running well since I purchased it. In the course of my trouble-shooting, I checked the cap and rotor. Cap looked normal, but the conductive part of the rotor, which goes from the cap button to the contacts inside the cap, had actually burned through. The non-conductive part of the rotor was still there, but as I said, the conductive part had burned through. Changed the rotor, and the car started. Any theories as to what happened, and why? Thanks
