Hello Everyone,
I have a 04 Volvo s80 T6 with 116,500 mile on it and the transmission is slipping intermittently. I've changed the oil/filter (with Valvoline Dexron VI-full syn). It has not gotten any better or any worse since May. It seems to start acting up after it's warm. When the car changes gear the RPM's keep going but the car does not but when I let off the accelerator and re-accelerate no problem. I took it to a transmission store and they checked the codes and nothing and no warning light on dash. They seemed slightly puzzled as well even after driving it. I did notice the top engine mount was totally broken. I replaced it and drove the heck out of it with no problem (got my hopes up). Well the next day it started again (it only happens 1 or 2 times each driving period). Double-checked the fluid level and it seemed to be a little high. Drained a small amount through the coolant hose. Well of course my neighbor decided to talk to me while I was working and I didn’t notice that the green retainer broke on the backside. Drove the car around the block leaving extra oil on the road. Has anyone had this experience or know what the next step might be? Trying to avoid the dealer if at all possible. Also I am totally confused on what transmission oil to use after reading other posts. Did I put in the wrong oil? The manual calls for Dexron IIIG (Volvo p/n 11615210). Thanks for your help!
note: it can happen between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd. have not notice going from 3-4. It it has happened in geartronic.

I have the same issue. I have a 2004 S80 T6 Premier with codes P0734-Gear 4 incorrect ratio. It was driving ok until today when it started acting similar to my 2000 S80 T6 when it had the ETM problem. I had to push hard on the pedal but it still won't accelerate any faster. I decided to shift manually but won't shift into gear 2 or 4 except in 3rd gear. I'm taking it to the dealer on Friday to replace the transmission. I have reset the indicator message ( Urgent Transmission Service) several times when it came on but today a check engine light came on as well. I have an OBDwiz software and an ELM327 usb so I've been using that to reset the indicator light whenever it came on. I read from different sites that it could be a solenoid or wiring issue. My local mechanic who worked on my 2000 S80 also told me to replace the transmission ( 04 S80 are known to have trans issues: GM messing up the fun).
I'll keep you posted when I get the transmission changed.

SO I took the car the the dealership and they're going to replace the transmission. Estimated cost is $ 5200 for a new one. I have an extended warranty from Route 66 ( not sure if anyone has used them before). Got a phone call today and they discussed my options of getting a new tranny put in by the dealer for $5200 or a re-manufactured tranny for half the cost from ETE Reman ( anyone know their reliability? ). If I choose the new one from the dealer, I'll have to pay the difference out of pocket, but if they ship the re-manufactured, it'll cost me nothing. What do you guys think? I have already opted for the reman but just wants to get your opinion on the new vs. reman.

As these transmissions are a GM design and fitted to a variety of different vehicles there's a good chance the rebuilder has lots of experience with them.
Most of the forum members here have had to shell out of their own pockets and have mostly opted for used ones, which is always a greater risk than a rebuilt unit. Hope this helps.

Thanks Precopster. I spoke to one of the local volvo mechanics that worked on my car before and he suggested the reman will be better. Route 66 says it'll take 3-7 days to be shipped from ETE Reman to get to the dealership. I'll post updates on here.precopster wrote:As these transmissions are a GM design and fitted to a variety of different vehicles there's a good chance the rebuilder has lots of experience with them.

Finally got my car back from the dealer's shop today. Rebuilt trans from ETE Reman seems to be working excellent. By the way, Route 66 paid for all the cost except for the taxes. My total was $160.
