2004 xc90 replacement trans question
I have found a good deal on a 04 xc90. The car is perfect, and the trans seems to be running fine (now) I know its a time bomb though , car has 100k.. Question is, If I got the car at a good price, and figured 4-5 k for a new transmission, are you just getting a new or rebuilt version of the same weak transmission, or have improvements been made?
I just rebuilt my transmission on my 2005 T6 XC90. It was shaking when shifting into second gear and would sometimes change with a bang.
I went to my buddies shop where he told me it was probably the body valve, which in itself is not a super expensive job....BUT.....it's not only the repair, it's the labor involved in the job. The tranny is the same as a GM Montana, therefore fairly reasonable, but the whole subframe has to be removed to gain access, therefore, while it was out, I decided to do a complete rebuild.
The complete repair set me back about $2200. which was well worth the results. Mine had 130,000 miles on it.
The dealer quoted me over $4000. for the same job.
Good luck, the drive of an XC is worth the investiment.
