ignition going bad?
ignition going bad?
1998 v70R Hi, i have a funny little prob that i cant figure out and any help would be great...ok sometimes when i start the car the a/c and radio, and o dont know what else doesnt come on with the car unless you jiggle the key a little bit. do i need a new key ignition or is this just a loose wire somewhere? any advice would be great thnx

Yeah, it's the electrical portion of the ignition switch. Search for the part, and you'll find it for about $50 I believe.
It attaches to the end of the tumbler assembly in the steering wheel cover, and takes about 15 minutes to change out by yourself.

I got the electrical portion for just over $50 at the local dealer. Pretty quick swap out. Unfortunately my problem ended up being the ignition key tumbler.... DOH!

Hmm. I've experienced a similar problem where my lights would not come on after starting
the car - including the dash instrument lights. When I bring the key back slightly all the lights
come on.
I was thinking I need the electronic portion of the ignition switch. Now I'm not sure. It sounds
like there is no easy way to tell other than by replacing the electronic part and seeing if it fixes
the problem.
How much was the tumbler? Did the dealer have to order a new tumbler for your key?
I'm wondering if the intermittent problem with my ignition switch is related to my fuel pump not
working recently.
