crazy girl sold her volvo, the light shines!!!

Post by seamansteph »

Sanity has come back to me! I sold my car Wednesday, it's over! Never have I been so excited to not have a car. I have now started the search, for something new, not new, just new to me. I am trying to decide between VOLVO or SAAB? any advise would really be GREAT!!! I want your thoughts & opinions. I have a question why does VOLVO have so many different types??? This may sound silly but what in the hell do the numbers mean??? Which volvo is better? more dependable? safer? & why? I am hoping to get a new car soon, would like to stay at or under 10,000 your suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah I wont be posting as CRAZY GIRL anymore, just Stephanie.

Saabs are interesting cars, personally I love their engines and performance, but can't stand the way they look. I can't get over the old 9000 series looks.

Being biased and all, I would go back to Volvo. Not necessarily another 850, but somthing like a V70 wagon. I wouldn't choose 99-01 years, because of the infamous Electronic Throttle Body irreliablity. A 98 year would be nice, because I has many improvements over the 850.

V70 looks good to me as a family car, lots of practical uses (hauling kids, hauling junk, spacious, and not a minivan). To me the 850 is more than enough, because I just drive myself around 90% the time 8) .

The '95 to '97 850's and the '98 S70 and V70 are great cars. You may have noticed that the majority of European car manufacturers don't use letter names for their models, but numbers instead. Most of the time, there is a meaning behind the numbers. For example, with the 850, it was originally released in Europe in late 1991. It was the halfway model so to speak between the 740 and the 940. Thus, the number 8. The 5 indicates the number of cylinders in the engine. The 0 is often replaced with a 4 or a 5, to indicate whether the said model is a sedan or wagon. I believe VLVWorld has some model history on the cars. If you value safety and reliability, you'd be best off going w/ the Volvo over the Saab. While the newest Saabs are just as safe as the newest Volvo's, the older ones didn't emphasize safety quite as much.
